Several years ago we sold
what was considered the best cod liver oil brand
and if you know anything about cod liver oils
you would be able to guess which brand we used
to carry: Nordic Naturals. The scientific
community knew it and often use Nordic Naturals
in their scientific studies. They had a cod liver product called Arctic-D Cod Liver Oil
and I never thought about why they had to add
back the Vitamin D
until I read Ramiel Nagel's book Cure Tooth
Decay. He pointed out that vitamin D is
naturally found in cod liver oil so why even
make a point of mentioning a cod liver oil
product with vitamin D. Well the truth is that
not only Nordic Naturals but ALL other cod liver
oil producers used industrialized production
methods to strip the taste, color, vitamin D
and other nutrients from their cod
liver oil. They do this in the name of
"purifying" the oil from all the bad stuff like
mercury etc. The process is called molecular
distillation. My question is if you are
concerned about mercury, why not get a lab to
simply test if the oil has mercury, etc. in it
before you take steps to remove some of the most
important nutrients in the oil? If you find
mercury, PCBs etc, then throw it away or sell it
to the guys that do molecular distillation and
see if they can clean it up.
You will notice the Green
Pasture's brand is Fermented not molecular
distilled. What this means is that only
traditional methods of oil preparation is used.
Please read the Green Pasture's Guarantee below:
Guarantee:
A majority of our livers used for our oils come from deep cold water oceans in and around the Bering Sea region and in general are of the Aleutian Islands.

|
We guarantee we will not compromise our products' nutrient quality and integrity by any industrial means that will damage or remove flavors, odors, colors, textures and/or nutrients.

We exclusively use third party testing for our products. |

This guarantee makes sense to
me. Molecular distillation just sound like
pasteurization to me which is another way to
remove natural nutrients from food. In our
humble opinion non of the other cod liver oils
out there can even come close to the nutrients
found in Green Pastures's Blue Ice Fermented Cod
Liver oils. I will give anything for food that
is minimally tampered with by mankind.
For those of you who are
concerned about things like taste, odor, etc.
Green Pastures states the following:
Taste, Odor, Texture, Color
Fermented cod liver oil is totally different than today's industrialized fish oil. We do not do any processing that affects taste, odor, or color, as we understand that these qualities also equal nutrients. Furthermore, we guarantee not to do any processing that will affect the natural nutrient content of our fermented liver oils. Take a moment and recall days gone by and the familiar pictures and stories of a mother chasing her kids around the kitchen with a spoon full of cod liver oil. The kids had a reason for protesting, the taste. While many people enjoy the 'wake me up' flavor of fermented cod liver oil, but others will find it takes getting used to. Our fermented liver oils have the same great taste, odor, and texture attributes as they have always had. These attributes include an acid feel on the throat, fish flavor, and sometimes a creamy texture. We do offer flavors to assist those who prefer not to experience the full fish flavor of our oils. Our flavors are all food-grade essential oils and do have nutrient value. We do not use chemical 'flavors', but real oils.

Talking about taste, this oil
tastes great to me. If you add a little Real
Salt on your tongue and swish it with the oil,
see if you won't have to stop yourself from
taking a second or third dose. It even taste
better the more I think about the fact that this
oil is super notorious.
Ramiel Nagel in his book Cure Tooth Decay
states on page 37:
Green Pasture
produces the highest quality, most
nutrient-dense cod liver oil on the marketcalled Blue Ice fermented cod
liver oil. It contains all of the cod liver's vitamin D intact because they
use a fermentation process rather than a distillation process. The cod liver
oil is never heated and it is carefully filtered to keep in all of the
natural vitamins.

How much vitamin A and
vitamin D does one teaspoon of Green Pastures
Blue Ice Fermented Cod Liver Oil have? Well,
because these nutrients are not added (in which
case a tidy number could be provided) the range
according to the Cure Tooth Decay book is as
follows:
Vitamin A
7,500-25,000 (I.U.)
Vitamin D
3,500-10,000 (I.U.)
